Piano Divina is a music ministry inspired by lectio divina, an ancient practice from the early Christian church. Lectio divina consists of alternations between silence and reading a Scripture passage four times. There are variations of lectio divina, some of them being visio divina (using visual art alongside Scripture) and musica divina (using music alongside Scripture). Piano Divina, then, is a form of musica divina. This ministry hopes to cultivate a deeper love and appreciation for Scripture by imagining what certain Bible pericopes might sound like. Three albums have been made thus far for that purpose.
Piano Divina concerts program 45 to 60 minutes of music and Scripture readings. A Scripture passage is read and then a short composition follows illustrating the pericope. Another passage is shared, followed by another musical piece. This alternation continues for the whole experience. Great for spiritual retreat centers and churches, Piano Divina concerts strive to help connect the listener to Scripture and God in a deeper way. Piano Divina concerts can also simply consist of my original compositions (see Scores tab) with verbal program notes sharing the Biblical inspiration behind each piece.
